Hearsing is the project of Avery Murphy and Jordan Taylor since mid-2020. Their musical collaboration originated in 2013 when they founded the surf punk outfit, SUBPAR, along with fellow members Austin Corona (Lilacs., Model/Actriz) and Lukas Henderson. In 2016, SUBPAR took a hiatus for each member to attend college, and Avery and Jordan found themselves attending different schools in the Pacific Northwest. During their academic tenure, they continued to follow their musical inclinations, each finding new avenues to explore and new musicians to collaborate with.
Upon graduating amidst a global pandemic, the two returned home to Santa Cruz, and began to pick up where they left off with SUBPAR. Yet, after reviewing their newly written songs, it became evident that their time spent in the Pacific Northwest had greatly influenced them, shaping their music into a distinct, new sound — leading to the creation of Hearsing.

Older, wiser, and more experienced since their initial collaboration, Avery and Jordan continue to utilize their surf punk roots, incorporating a broad range of new influences and textures to produce a brand of western music wholly their own. Hearsing finds inspiration across a pantheon of artists, from the witty lyrical brooding of bands like Silver Jews and Destroyer, to the scorching rhythmic twang of classic country music being rebranded by contemporary artists like Orville Peck, and the charging distorted intensity of 2000's indie bands like The Strokes, and Smith Westerns. Hearsing marries these seemingly disparate sounds with an emotional dose of desperado.
